Abstract

578,036. Paving. BRITISH REINFORCED CONCRETE ENGINEERING CO., LTD., and HALL, E. B. Sept. 30, 1944, No. 18761. [Class 20 (iv)] Temporary or permanent roads are made with preformed sections each consisting of a rectangular sheet 1 of wire mesh material with a kerb 2 attached to two opposite sides, the sections being placed on the ground with the kerbs in line and filled to the level of the kerbs with a road-surfacing material 3, such as tar macadam or a loose aggregate, which will become locked or wedged in the wire meshes. The kerbs may be of concrete or the like, moulded on to the wire material, or of two layers of brick or wood with the material respectively cemented or stapled between them. The ground may be excavated so that the road surface is level with the surrounding ground surface, or may be trenched to receive the parts of the kerb below the wire ; alternatively, the sections may be simply laid on the ground, in which case the kerbs may be arranged wholly above the wire.
