Abstract

1,170,216. Expansion joints. SOC. APPLICAZIONI GOMMA ANTIVIBRANTI S.p.A. 14 Aug., 1968 [6 Sept., 1967], No. 38804/68. Heading E1G. A resilient rubber expansion strip 61 is anchored to adjacent road or bridge sections 21<SP>1</SP>, 22<SP>1</SP> by dovetail beads 67 engaging dovetail channel members 63 which are anchored in prefabricated reinforced concrete beams 69 bolted to the edges of the sections 21<SP>1</SP>, 22<SP>1</SP> against angle beams 71, 71<SP>1</SP> by bolts 70, foundation 25a and a road surface 25 layers being subsequently applied. The beads 62 are retained in channels 63 by rigid rods or cables 65 passed through bores 64 therein, removal of the rods or cables allowing removal of the strip 61 without disturbing the adjacent road sections. The upper surface of the strip 61 is ribbed as in Specification No. 1,095,244. In a modification the bores 64 intersect one or more recesses in the base of the dovetail beads, and channels 63 have rings said recess or recesses, through which said strip. upstanding from the base corresponding to rods or cables pass to more firmly anchor the
