Abstract

940,789. Expansion and contraction joints. SERVICISED PRODUCTS CORPORATION. June 9, 1961 [July 8, 1960], No. 20902/61. Heading E1V. Sealing means for a joint between adjacent concrete sections 5a, 5b, Fig. 3, comprise plates 18 spaced apart by a resilient member 19 and having upper edge portions outwardly offset to receive a sealing strip 20. Before the concrete 5 is laid the joint members are supported by two rods 15 passing through holes in the plates 18 and themselves supported by wires 16 anchored in the foundation of the road. Prongs 11 and curved members 12 secure the plates to the concrete 5 the latter also forming watertroughs. In an alternative embodiment (not shown) the member 19 is omitted, the plates 18 abutting each other and having a smaller sealing strip located between their upper edges. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, particularly for repairing concrete, plates 28 with a sealing member 29, 30 between their upper portions are vibrated into position while the concrete is still soft.
