Abstract

540,881. Portable buildings ; slabs ; composite blocks. TARRAN, R. G. March 26, 1940, No. 5392. [Classes 20 (i), 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] [Also in Group XXIII] An arcuate building is formed of a plurality of curved slabs each having a curved web and curved longitudinal wooden-side flanges on two opposed edges rigidly attached to the web, the slabs being laid in broken bond with the flanges projecting inwardly and interconnected by means of those flanges by bolts, screws, clips or the like. The slabs may be of concrete or wood or as shown in Figs. 3, 4, with a concrete web 22 and wooden edge flanges 26 secured by pins 25 welded to the reinforcement 24 of the web or of the laterally disposed end thickening portions 23 which may not project to the same extent as the edge flanges. The slabs for the ends of the building are flat but both flat and curved slabs are laid to broken bond with the laterally disposed edges staggered, and the slabs are interconnected by the flanged edges only. The slabs may have their inner faces curved transversely. Wooden slabs are formed of curved edge flange portions 26, Fig. 12, with laterally disposed slots 43 secured between them and the screws 34 for securing the slabs together are screwed in from opposite sides of the flanges alternately. The curves of the side slabs run into the curve of the roof slabs which may be of greater curvature than the side slabs. The bottom side slabs may be supported in a recess 28 of a footing 27, Fig. 7, and waterproof covering material is placed over the joints and over the whole of the exterior surface with its lower edge depending into a drainage groove 29 also provided in the footing. The inner surface is lined with wood 40 secured to the flanges of the panels. Specifications 540,902 and 540,903 are referred to.
