Class 20(2) Shuttering comprises panels 10 assembled in courses so that one lies on the joint of two in the course below, the vertical joints between panels of alternate courses receiving projections 30 of soldiers 11, spacing elements 25 bridging the corresponding horizontal gaps between panels of intervening courses. The panels may be made of steel sheets welded by channel section strips 13 which also form tongues along the vertical and top edges of the panels, the bottom edge having a reversed strip to form a groove or vice versa. The soldiers 11 may be of box section steel the height of two courses, the upper panel lying across the joint of two lower panels in a recess 22, Fig. 2 of the soldiers. The lower course is joined to the soldier by a tongue 30 on a flange 23 which fits into a recess on the vertical tongue of the adjacent panel 10. Grooves and tongues of the panels engage each other and the upper horizontal tongue is engaged in the channel 35 at the base of the soldier. Spacer panels 25 are employed in the unjoined alternate courses to make up the width of the soldiers. Holes 48 are provided for spacer ties which are also indicated at 36. Soldiers may be joined to each other vertically by plates, the dowels 17 of which engage in holes 18, the slot 20 fitting over bolt 19 which is then fastened by a nut. A sliding cam latch 31, Fig. 1, has a tongue which engages in apertures 34 in the vertical panel tongues. Tubular cleats 24 brace the shuttering horizontally or may be used to attach vertical scaffolding (Fig. 4, not shown). Angle shaped corner pieces and wooden panels with metal tongues and grooves may be used (Fig. 3, not shown), curved girders may replace the soldiers for tunnel wall shuttering (Fig. 6, not shown), or the panels connected vertically edge to edge by means of lockably hinged sections with depending tongues (Fig. 5, not shown). Vertical fitments as described in Specification 680,850 [Group XXV] may also replace the soldiers. Panels joined edgewise by timber or metal springs may be used for soffit panels (Fig. 8, not shown).
