964,483. Building frames; metal columns. R. ULEMEK. Feb. 12, 1963, No. 5602/63. Headings E1B and E1K. A metal frame for buildings comprises tubular columns 1 of rectangular cross-section bridged by spacing strips 6 the cross-section of each of which comprises two rectangles 6a each having a corner removed, connected by a web 6b to form an opening containing the tops of the columns and edges of wall slabs, opposite rows of columns being connected by ties 7 forming the bottom boom of roof principals and having three channels 7a-7c, the channel 7b and the web 6b being of equal width and the strips 6 and the ties 7 being of equal width. The roof principal is completed by angle iron braces 9 bolted to angles 8 on the ties 7 and to T-section rafters formed of angle irons back to back. Two rafters may be welded to purlins to form a rectangular frame. The strips 6 and the ties 7 are secured by bolts 2 to the top of the columns and ceiling boards 15 are secured by plates 17 on channel members 16 resting on the strips 6 and on the edge of the ties 7. Wall boards 4 rest against integral abutments 3 on the columns. The columns are formed by bending metal sheet to form three sides with marginal flanges to which the fourth side is secured.
