Abstract
1,068,761. Metal bars, posts, door frames, floor and roof panels. W. H. WILLATTS. Feb. 20, 1964 [Feb. 22, 1963], No. 7344/63. Headings E1B, E1J, E1K and E1W. A channel for building purposes with walls, having inturned flanges 5 Fig. 1 has an inwardly directed ridge formed of inclined parts 7, 8 in the base, the parts 7, 8 being wider than the marginal parts 9, 10 of the base and the flanges 5 being the same width or narrower than the marginal parts. These channels may be joined base to base or mouth to mouth to form structural members. Two channels 1 Fig. 5 may be joined by a web 16 to form a lattice 1 beam. The web 16 may be formed of a series of triangular plates between which are triangular openings and stiffening plates 19 bisect and are welded to the plates and also to the channels 1. A wooden fillet 21 is provided for nailing. The web may comprise diagonal rods 23, Fig. 6 welded to the outsides of the channels. A further modified lattice beam comprises booms 28, 29 Fig. 9 each consisting of a pair of channels and a web of vertical and diagonal channels 27 between the members of the pairs. Another beam Fig. 13 (not shown) comprises a plate web instead of the channels 27 which is stiffened by vertical angles. The plate web may be in parts or of ply wood. A post or column comprises two channels 40, Fig. 16 secured face to face and having wooden fillets 41 in the ridges and cladding 40a. In a modified post the channels are separated by wooden A ceiling and floor panel comprises cladding 52, 53 Fig. 18 connected at opposite edges by channels 54 and reinforced by wooden noggins 55 and spacers 56. In a modified panel Fig. 19 (not shown) the panel is reinforced by channels at the open edges which support the cladding by transverse bearers. A triangular roof truss Fig. 20 (not shown) consists of channels welded together.
