Abstract

1,009,559. Structural bars, lattice girders, panel structures, metal and concrete beams. DEXION Ltd. Aug. 12, 1964 [Aug. 12, 1963], No. 31779/63. Headings E1K and E1V. A hollow T-section structural member 1 comprises a main channel 2 with channel wings 3 the adjacent flanges 4, 5 of each wing 3 and the main channel being at less than 90 degrees and the opening 9 between the outer flanges 7 of the wings 3 being the same or greater than the width of the main channel. Two members 1 are connected by the bases 8 of the main channel or by the flanges 7 of the wings to form stronger members. Two members 1 are connected by flat or corrugated plates welded to the flanges 5 to form a plate girder. Members 1 are used as the booms of girders either singly or in pairs secured to either side of channel section diagonal 20 by their bases 8. The diagonals may be flat, angle or T-section. Cladding is connected to the members by hook bolts, screws engaging wood filling in the channels or clips round the edges of the cladding panels and the wings 3 Fig. 10 (not shown) or inside the flanges 7 or purlins may be connected by cleats 37, Fig. 14, secured to stepped plates 35 engaging under the flanges 7 and secured by a screw 36 the end of which engages the base 8 of the channel or (as shown) a plate 39 resting on the flanges 4. The members are made of metal, glass fibre or laminated or bonded particle wood.
