734,809. Floors; roofs; walls. HARRISON, D. D., SEEL, E., and HARRISON, N., [trading as HARRISON & SEEL]. July 14, 1953 [April 15, 1953], No. 10282/53. Classes 20 (2) and 20 (4). A roof, floor, or wall structure comprises a number of spaced parallel beams such as 10, 11 which cross, at right - angles, other spaced parallel beams such as 12- 13, the beams being formed of separate beam parts, e.g. 17, 18, and 19, 20, and the ends of the beam parts, where they cross, being spaced by an abutment block 22 and joined by a pair of metal plates 24, 25, drawn together by a bolt 26 and a nut 27. The plates 24, 25, of cruciform shape, have wedge-shaped projections 31 along their outer edges, to project into corresponding recesses in the beam part ends, stiffening webs 34 being provided on the inner faces of both plates. Each upper plate 24 has a central boss 29, four radial webs 36, having apertures 37, being formed integral with the boss on the outer face of the plate. The structure, when forming a floor, may be supported, beneath the junction plates, by piers, not shown, floor boards, or panels, 38, secured to each other along the meeting edges by screws bolts, or metal tongues 54, having openings to receive the bosses 29. Recesses 39 and slots 40 are formed around the latter openings to receive the webs 36, the holes 37 in which extend partly above the recessed parts 39 to receive, e.g., tapered fastening pegs 41. Coverplates 42 are placed over the openings in the floor boards. If desired, the lower end of a column may seat on an upper plate 24, the end of the column being slotted and recessed to receive the webs 36 and the pegs 41. When a junction is supported upon a column, a lower plate similar to the upper plate is used. In a roof structure, when the beam parts are at an angle to the plates 24, 25, e.g. at the ridge joint, the upper plate 24 is provided with deeper webs 36 which each accommodate a second opening above the opening 37 for attaching inclined roof panels. Fig. 8 shows a column consisting of four metal sections 67 connected by distancepieces 68, to leave slots 69 for the reception of the webs 36. Pairs of plates 24, 25 arranged near a wall, or corner, may have one, or two, of their limbs omitted. In alternative forms the projections 31 may be formed by curving, or otherwise shaping the edges of the plates. Specification 734,781 is referred to.
