Abstract

1350889 Lattice beams SPACE DECKS (PATENTS) Ltd 6 Jan 1971 [6 Oct 1969] 49078/69 Addition to 1120921 Heading E1K [Also in Division F2] A space frame formed by an assembly of pyramidal units bolted together and arranged in a number of decks comprises a first deck of pyramidal units fixed together side by side, each unit comprising a polygonal frame 2, a boss 4 spaced from the plane of the frame and struts 3 joining the boss and the corners of the frame; and a further deck of pyramidal units 5 each having no base and formed of a junction member 7 to which are fixed equal length struts 6 the free ends of which are fixed directly, or by means of intermediate bosses 10 and further struts 9 as shown, to the bosses 4, the junction members 7 being connected by tie rods 8. As shown the pyramidal units have square bases and at least one end of each of the struts which are tubular is welded to the outer face of one wall of a right angled corner unit 12, both holes being provided in the other two walls. The abutting corner units of two facing sets of four pyramid slant edge struts having a common apex form the bosses 4, 10, each set presenting the appearance of a plate divided into four quadrants by a cruciform array of flanges parallel to the plate edges, the two sets being bolted together with the aid of four L-shaped junction plates or brackets (16, Fig. 7 not shown) inserted one in each quadrant to lap the junctions between edgeabutting corner pieces units of the two sets (see Figs. 5, 6 not shown). The corner units of the struts 3 may be welded together at the boss 4 and may be welded to the corner of the frame 2. The passageways 11 may be used as walk ways or for ductings.
