Abstract

570,635. Concrete building frameworks. SPENCER, T. Oct. 21, 1943, No. 17377. [Class 20 (iv)] A reinforced concrete framed structure comprises a plurality of frame members each comprising two or more parallel reinforced concrete units spaced apart, and a connecting member or distance member arranged between each pair of units at each end and secured to them, each connecting member also extending between and being secured to the units of another frame member to which the first member is joined. Fig. 1 shows the framing for the wall of a two-storey building, the framing comprising corner columns 14, intermediate main columns 15, intermediate columns 17, floor stretchers 22, intermediate beams 18, and main beams 16, which between them enclose door openings 19, window openings 20, and spaces 21 to be filled in to complete the wall. The main columns'and beams each comprises two or more frames of coplanar groups of units, and some of the members consist of groups of units arranged end to end. Thus, as shown in Fig. 4, the corner column 14, adjacent the beams 16, includes four lower and four upper units 23 which are interconnected by two connecting members 40. Two of the units 23 are shorter than the other two by the widtfi of a unit and on the shorter two rest the two lower units 35 of the beam 16 on one side of the building. These units 35 and the longer units 23 provide supports for the units 38 of the beam 16 on the other face of the building. The units 35 are spaced from one another by distance pieces 36 and by connecting members 37, the latter extending into the column. Spacing members 39, 41, are provided as shown between the units 38 and 23 respectively. The joint between the column and upper main beams is similar except that the members 40 do not extend above the beams. The main beams 16 are connected to the intermediate columns 17 by connecting members 55 as shown. The Specification also describes and illustrates modified forms of joints for connecting the various columns with the main and intermediate beams and for connecting the floor stretches with the columns. The roof of the building comprises pairs of reinforced concrete beams 60, Fig. 8, arranged on opposite sides of a connecting member 50 of columns 15 and resting on the beams 17. Each member of the roof truss is also composed of pairs of units arranged side by side, the members being connected together by gusset plates 62, 64, 65 and 68 located between the units.
