Abstract

946,460. Lattice girders and columns. C. T. MULVANEY. May 10, 1960 [Nov. 24, 1959], No. 16508/60. Heading E1K. In girders and roof trusses and parts of building frames comprising four rods 1-4, Fig. 2, the rods 1, 2 touching each other and being welded together at spaced intervals and diagonal struts 5 and diagonal and perpendicular struts 6 joining the rods together in a triangular section, the axes of the struts meet on the axes of the rods. The roof truss Fig. 5 has three sections decreasing in size towards the centre of the building, the section near the column having a fifth bar 10 welded to bars 1, 2, the other sections being of less depth than this section and the rods 1, 2 of the smallest section are of less diameter than the rods 3, 4. In a modification, Fig. 10 (not shown) two girders are connected side by side by struts and welding. Girders are connected end to end by boxes formed of three angle iron 31-33, Fig. 17 welded into a triangle and welded on the end of the bars 1-4, the boxes of two girders being connected by bolts passing through holes 28 and plates 26.
