Abstract

1,218,303. Portal frames. BOULTON & PAUL Ltd. 20 March, 1969, No. 14601/69. Headings E1K and E1W. In a portal frame the rafters 1 are interconnected by cleats 4 and bolts 5 (Fig. 2, not shown) and the rafters are connected to the stanchions 3 by cleats 8 and bolts 9. In order to resist bending moments there are provided at the apex and the eaves metal bars 6 and 10 respectively with metal end plates 7 and 11 respectively, welded thereto, the end plates being connected to the rafters 'and to the stanchions as shown in Fig. 1 for the eaves. The bars 6 and 10 may be T section.
