Abstract

882,293. Scaffold clamps. BURTON, J. May 10, 1960 [May 14, 1959], No. 16504/59. Class 44. A scaffold unit comprises a cross-member 10 having permanently fixed to each end two clamps as at 12, 17 to receive uprights 16 and ledges 18 respectively. The clamps comprise pivoted jaws 13, 20 secured by bolts 15, 21. These are gusset plates 22 having distance pieces 25 which engage the sides of the uprights. In a modification, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown) the clamps 17 are reversed on the cross-member so that the ledges come inside the uprights. The gusset plate may be welded to one side of the cross-member and extend downward at a small angle to the vertical to engage the upright with its lower inclined edge without the use of a separate distance piece, see Fig. 4 (not shown).
