984,037. Clamp fastenings; column and beam connections. UP-RIGHT Inc. Feb. 21, 1963, No. 7047/63. Headings E1K, E1V and E2B. A connection adapted to rigidly mount a horizontal beam 10 from a cylindrical upright member 12 comprises a bracket 14 adapted to be secured to the beam, the bracket having a pair of openings, a saddle plate 18 having openings aligned with the openings of said bracket and a lip 21 below said bracket adapted to engage the upright member and a raised bearing surface thereon engaging the bracket above the openings and means including a U bolt 17 having its legs adapted to straddle the upright member and projecting through the openings of the bracket and saddle plate for canting the saddle plate. In the embodiment shown there is a second beam 11 and a second bracket 15 and the U bolt 17 passes through both brackets. The saddle plate has a raised bearing surface 20 which bears on the outermost bracket and acts as a fulcrum. The lip 21 is tapered to a biting edge and curved to mate with the surface of the cylindrical member and a second U bolt 16 is provided which clamps the brackets to the cylindrical member. The two beams and the member 12 can be part of a storage rack.
