Abstract

971,553. Furniture joints. KAY MANUFACTURING CORPORATION. Sept. 25, 1961, No. 34222/61. Heading A4W. A furniture bracket 10 comprises upper and lower portions 41, 40 having aligned openings for receiving a leg 18, marginal portions being provided on said lower portion 40 on which to seat and support furniture rails 14, 15, and means on said portions to engage and position the rails. The rails 14, 15 (Fig. 5) are positionally seated on the lower portion 40 of the one-piece bracket 10 by co-planar edges 49, 51 and flanges 46, 48, formed on a brace portion 39, prior to fixing by screws 20 and 16. The leg extension 19 is screwed in the threaded hole 45 thereby to flex the upper portion 41 into abutment with the face 36 of the leg spacer portion 35 and tightly clamp the leg. Alternatively, the spacer portion may comprise a separate tubular element 56 (Fig. 7) positioned around flanged openings 52, 55 in the bracket which is formed with a rail positioning lug 57 and may have an inclined brace portion 60. Alternatively (Fig. 11), the upper portion 70 may be formed as a bracing member. In an embodiment (Fig. 12) for an intermediate leg the lower bracket portion is provided with extensions 81, 82 on which the rail is seated with its vertical face abutting the brace portion 75.
