Abstract

743,130. Clamp fastenings. ALLEN & HANBURYS, Ltd. Oct. 26, 1953 [Dec. 8, 1952], No. 31071/52. Class 44. A clamp comprises a slide 1 adapted to be attached to a fixed support, inner and outer clamping members 4, 5 adapted to clamp a rod or the like between them and rotatably mounted on the slide, means 14 for holding the clamping members in a desired angular position, means 15 for holding the slide against movement on its support, a locking screw 3 adapted to tighten the clamping members against the rod or the like and also to apply both holding means and a pivot pillar 9 on the outer face of the inner clamping member and engaged in a recess 10 on the inner face of the outer clamping member, which recess is larger than the pillar so that the outer clamping member can tilt or pivot on the pillar when the locking screw is tightened. Each of the members 4, 5 has a part-cylindrical recess 6, 7, the two recesses being arranged opposite each other to receive the rod to be clamped. The two members are connected together near their peripheries, so that they can pivot towards each other, by the pivot pillar 9 which is screwed into a bore 8 in the member 4, a screw 12 engaging the pillar 9 to retain the member 5 on the pillar. The face of the member 4 adjacent the slide 1 has a circular recess 13, the wall of which tapers inwardly and the means 14 which is an annular member having a tapering peripheral wall and the overall diameter of which is slightly greater than that of the recess 13, is positioned in the recess 13, so that when the locking member 3 is screwed into the slide the member 14 is forced into the recess with its tapering wall wedging against the tapering wall of the recess. The means 15 which are studs, project from the larger face of the member 14 through recesses 16 on the slide 1. When the locking member 3 is screwed into the slide 1, the members 4, 5 are urged together so that the rod is clamped in the recesses 6, 7, the studs 15 are forced into engagement with the bar to lock the slide I in position and the tapering walls of the member 14 and recess 13 are forced into contact to lock the members 4 and 5 against rotation relative to the slide 1.
