Abstract

937,371. Truss girders; bridges. L. J. DUBOIS. Oct. 12, 1959 [Oct. 21, 1958], No. 34546/59. Classes 20 (1) and 20 (2). All the main elements of a truss girder particularly in a bridge construction consist of tubular members such as 1 and 3 formed by welding together along their longitudinal edges a series of sheet metal sections, such as the sections a, Fig. 4. As an alternative to the uniformly arcuate sections a, sections 20 with more sharply curved edge portions are welded together at 30, as shown in Fig. 11, or with the concave face of the sections directed outwardly (not shown). Complementary connecting pieces 9, 10 are welded together and to the truss members at 11 as shown or are connected by welding, riveting or any bonding means. The tubular members may be reinforced by tensioned cables 6 with terminal anchoring means 7 staggered longitudinally of the members. Each cable may be housed in a corrugation of a sheet metal reinforcing member welded to the inner face of the tubular member. Transverse joints between adjacent longitudinal sections are staggered.
