Description

MULTI-STOREY BUILDING This invention relates to multi-store buildings.
The provision of adequate car parking space, e.g.
in public car parks and at factories, offices, hotels and the like, is an ever increasing problem. Ground level parking is frequently all that is available and the unavailability and cost of further land frequently precludes the provision of additional ground level car parking space. In such circumstances the only said of providing additional parking space is to build over existing round level car parking space.
The present invention has as its object to provide a multi-storey building which can be quickly and easily erected from pre-formed components and which is suitable for providing temporary multi-level' car parking or a temporary building such as temporary factory or office space.
The present invention provides a multi-storey building comprisine a plurality of vertical steel pillars or columns arranged at predetermined distances from one another. steel .ioists extending between and secured to said pillars or columns and steel floor sections supported b and secured to said ousts.
Preferably, the building is demountable. said joists being releasably secured to said pillars or columns and said floor sections being releasably secured to said joists.
Said oists may be bolted to said pillars or columns and said floor sections may be bolted to said joists. If desired or necessary said floor sections may be releasably connected, e.g., bolted or clamped together and/or be interfitting. Sealing and/or expansion strips, e.g., of rubber, synthetic rubber or plastics material, may be interposed between said floor sections and/or between said floor sections and said joists.
Said pillars or columns and/or said joists are preferably H-section girders of the kind which are readils commercially available.
Each said floor section max comprise a steel plate forming the upper surface of the floor section and stiffening means on the underside of said steel plate.
Said stiffening means may comprise angle-sections.
channel-sections or H-sectiopns welded to the underside of said steel plate. Advantageously, said floor section comprises a second steel plate spaced belou said first steel plate and stiffening means between said steel plates. The stiffening means between said steel plates; may comprise angle, or channel sections or H-sections as aforesaid or may comprise a honeycomb structure formed from steel strip.
The upper surface of said floor sections may be provided with a non-slip and/or sound insulating covering or coating, e.g. , a covering or coating of asphalt, a polymer/cement mixture, a natural or synthetic rubber material or an expoxy resin material/aggregate mixture.
The underside of the floor sections may be provided with a covering o coasting which will act as a fire check and/or provide sound insulation. Suitable materials for this purpose are cementitious plaster, e.g., applied by spraying. or rockwool, e.g. , applied direct or as a suspended ceiling.
The building of the present invention may be in the form of a multi-storey car parlor. Such a building may have one or more entrstexit ramps to the or each upper floor. the or each said entry/exit ramp comprisin steel pillars or columns, steel joists extending between said pillars or columns and steel floor sections supported on said joists. A crash barrier may be provided around the outer periphery of the or each upper floor and/or alone each side of the or each said entry/exit ramp, said crash barrier bering in preformed sections which are releasably connected to said pillars or columns and/or said joists.
Where a building according to the present invention is for use as, e.g., temporary factory or office space, then the building may have cladding around the outer periphery thereof. Such cladding may be in preformed sections and may be releasably secured or bolted to said pillars or columns and/or to said joists. Said cladding may be of steel and may include at least one door or window. If desired the building may be provided with internal partition walls and such partition walls may be in pre-formed sections which are releasably secured, e.g., bolted, to said pillars or columns.
A building according to the present invention may have at least one pre-formed staircase extending between floors. Likewise a building according to the present invention may comprise at least one car lift or passenger lift.
A building according to the present invention requires only a minimum of foundations and such foundations may simply comprise a pad of concrete inset into the ground beneath each said pillar or column.
The different components of a building according to the present invention, with the exception of the foundation pads, can all be prepared off-site and can simply be transported to the site and erected thereon b bolting the various components together to minimise the actual time spent on site. In this way the normal usage of the ground on which the building is to be erected is disrupted as little as possible. The invention enables a temporary building, and particularly temporary additional car parking space, to be provided in a quick, simple and cost-effective manner.
The invention will be more particulari,- described with reference to the accompanying drawings. in which Figure 1 is a diagrammatic perspeLtive of of a multi-storey car park according to the present invention.
Figure 2 is a fragmentary exploded viei showing some of the components of the car park of Figure 1. and Figure 3 is a part cutaway perspective view of a floor section used in the car park of Figure 1 Referring; to the drawings, it vill be seen that the car park illustrated has three upper levels, namely a first level 1, a second level 2 and a third level Vehicular access to the different levels is provided by entry ramps 4 whilst vehicular exit from the differeri levels is provided by exit ramps 3. Pre-formed staircases 6 and 7 provide pedestrian access to the different levels.
The car park is constructed from upstanding pillars or columns 8 in the form of H-section steel girders supported on concrete foundation pads 9. Each of the columns 8 may have a plate 10 secured1 e.g.. welded, to the lower end thereof which is inset into or bolted to a foundation pad 9. Extending between the pillars or columns 8 are joists 11 in the form of H-section steel girders. The joists 11 are supported on and are bolted to plates i2 or brackets (not shown) welded to the pillars or columns 8. Supported on and bolted to the joists 11 are steel floor sections 13. Floor sections 13 may be laid side-by-side as shown in Figure 2, end-to-end or end-to-side to span a required floor area, ith pillars or columns 8 and joists 11 being appropriately positioned to support the floor sections. The ramps 4 and 5 are similarly constructed using pillars or columns 8, joists II and floor sections 13.
As will be seen from Figure 3. each of the floor sections 13 may comprise an upper steel plate iA, a lower steel plate 15 and a honeycomb structure 16 sandwiched between L the plates 14 and 15 arid constructed from steer strip.
The different levels 1, 2 and 3 and the ramps 4 and 5 may be bounded by crash barriers 17 which may be erected from pre-formed sections bolted or otherwise secured to the pillars or columns 8 and/or to the joists 11 or suitable plates or brackets bolted to the joists 11.
The upper surface of the floor sections 13 may be provided with a non-slip and/or sound insulating covering or coating, e.g., of asphalt. a polymer/cement nlixture, or a natural or synthetic rubber materiai to prevent slipping or skidding and to dampen noise.
Where space or site limitations do not permit the provision of ramps 4 or 5 or stairs 6 or T, or there is a requirement. then car lifts or passenger lifts may be provided in place thereof or in addition thereto.
