Abstract

1,158,581. Metal Walls; buildings. W.G. WEEKES Ltd. 12 July, 1966 [12 July, 1965]. No. 29521/65. Headings E1A and E1W. A wall structure comprises upper and lower longitudinally extending metal girders 6, 8 having channels 7 facing each other so as to receive lower and upper edges respectively of wall sections 1 each comprised by a pair of metal sheets secured together in spaced apart relationship, for example by studs 4 rivetted to the two sheets. The wall may comprise means for clamping the wall sections 1 against relative mutual movement, such means comprising clamping members 10 which urge the girders 6, 7 together and/or clamping members 12 extending longitudinally of the girders. A panel may incorporate a window or door frame having peripheral slots 14b in which edges of adjacent wall sections are received. Heat insulating material may be disposed between the sheets of the wall sections. The girders 6 of adjacent walls when incorporated in a building may be metred and connected by bolted triangular plates 18. A floor and ceiling of the building may be supported by metal joists secured respectively to the lower and upper girders 6, 8. The upper girders may also support roof trusses 29 which in turn support roofing in the form of overlapping strips 31 formed with alternate flat and semi-circular portions 33, 32.
