Abstract

1356941 Built up timber beams TIMBER RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT ASSOCIATION 9 June 1971 [9 March 1970] 11187/70 Heading E1W A timber beam comprises a sheet timber web 12 and longitudinal timber members 13 of square or rectangular cross-section each acting as a flange secured to one or each side of the web at each of the opposite edges of the web and defining top and bottom flange faces which have keying means 14 for locating frames or wall panels 18, 17. The keying means may comprise a groove. Timber framed panels Fig. 2 (not shown) are clad externally with plywood 22 and internally with plasterboard 23, and may have a mineral wool filling. The panels are errected on a cill and surmounted by timber beams 11 which key to the top edge and serve to bridge door and window openings and support ceiling and roof beams with the interposition of flexible sound attenuating insulation (54, Fig. 6, not shown).
