Abstract

1468534 Laminates M J RUDNEV 28 March 1974 [4 July 1973] 13843/74 Heading B5N [Also in Division F4] A panel, suitable for use in the construction of cold-rooms comprises a porous heat-insulating core 10, e.g. of expanded polystyrene, with a facing sheet 11, 12, e.g. of metal, secured to each of the opposite parallel faces thereof, one of the facing sheets 11 being formed with at least one vapour vent 15 communicating with an arrangement of vapour channels or passages formed in the face of the core to which facing sheet 11 is secured, the vapour channels or passages including a series of parallel longitudinal grooves 13 formed in the face of the core to which facing sheet 11 is secured and facing sheet 11 having a series of longitudinal grooves 14 pressed therein each extending part way into one of the longitudinal grooves formed in the face of the core to which facing sheet 11 is secured. The channels 13 may be excised from the core by means of rotary cutters prior to pressing the facing sheets having adhesive applied thereto on to opposite sides of the core, both of the facing sheets after application to the core being acted upon by rollers shaped to form grooves 14 in the sheets and vapour vents 15 being formed through grooves 14 of facing sheet 11. Channels may also be formed transversely in the panel core to form a grid pattern. In the construction of a cold-room facing sheet 11 forms the inside face of the panel so that any moisture entering the core passes through the vapour channels and vents into the room. The panels may be used in the construction of the walls and ceiling of the cold-room, the upright wall panels and horizontal ceiling panels being mitred at their junction with the edges of the facing sheets being turned inwardly to the panel cores and a vent provided at the junction extending transversely across the entire width of the panels. An angle member may be secured within each of the angles of wall and ceiling spaced therefrom by spacer members so that any moisture which has entered the panels due to a defect in the vapour seal may escape into the cold-room.
