Abstract
1321985 Panel wall structures O A BECKER 13 May 1970 [13 May 1969 21 May 1969 25 June 1969 22 July 1969 14 Aug 1969 23 Aug 1969 21 Nov 1969] 21347/70 Headings E1B and E1W [Also in Division B3] A composite wall unit has inner and outer opaque panels 3a, 3b respectively wherein at least one airtight cavity between them contains dry air or dry nitrogen and insulating means and is connected with an air drier and a pressure equalising means. Both the panels 3a, 3b may be plastics covered metal or the outer panels 3a may be so constructed while the inner panel is plasterboard, metal, wood, plastics, asbestos cement, or foamed concrete lined with aluminium reflecting foil 7. A double metal panel may include a perforated foam plastics insulating plate 71 lined on both sides with foil 7, corrugated aluminium sheets 93, 94 with vertical and horizontal corrugations respectively in the general plane of the panel fire proof asbestos panels (115) Fig. 4 (not shown) and corrugated aluminium sheets 7W generally perpendicular to the panel plane. A third inner panel 16 of foil lined plaster board &c may be connected and sealed spaced from the inner metal panel 3b. All the panels may be connected by plastics bolts 72 engaging in nuts 72a welded to the metal panels. Parallel foils 7 may be held in tension by springs 78 and spaced; by foam plastics spacers 77 adhered to one side of each foil only; by intersecting helical plastics springs (112) Fig. 16 (not shown); or when the foils are corrugated, by rectangular spacing strips (165) Fig. 26 (not shown); or by tensioned cords (101) Fig. 24 (not shown) fixed to the foils. The pressure equalizing means may be either a belows like unit (178) Fig. 30 (not shown), (171) Fig. 28 (not shown) incorporated inside the composite panel or may be a similar unit (225) Fig. 4 (not shown) incorporated in the building structure and serving several panels in the wall. The gas in the panels may be above below or at atmospheric pressure and the panel itself may contain drying devices. The gas in the panels may be circulated either in a closed system through drying and filtering devices or have an intake from the atmosphere. A heating or cooling system may be incorporated in such a circulating system and heat may be conducted to or from the inner panels by means of a water jacket system in direct thermal contact with these panels see Figs. 14, 15. A curtain wall system may be formed by the outside panels 3a suspended from the edges of the concrete floor/ceiling slabs (121) see Figs. 14, 15 and 17. A device for reinforcing the margins of the aluminium foil see Fig. 32 (not shown) comprises reelsof foil and an edge reinforcing strip (198) -of plastics or heavier gauge aluminium. The edge strips are adhered to the edges of the aluminium foil by rollers (204). Alternatively the strip (198) may be rivetted to the foil.
