Abstract

1321984 Wall panels O A BECKER 16 Sept 1969 [29 March 1969 13 May 1969 21 May 1969 25 June 1969 22 July 1969 14 Aug 1969 23 Aug 1969] 45498/69 Headings E1B and E1W A thermally insulating wall unit comprises two opposed wall panels one of which is of vapour absorbent material, e.g. plaster, made vapour impervious at least on its inner surface, the outer surface of the panel being intended to face the interior of a building, and the other panel is of a similar kind or of a vapour impervious material, and a vapour impervious seal disposed at the edges of the panels so as to define between them at least one vapour impervious cavity which contains insulation, there being provided at least one pipe for connecting the cavity to a valve or some apparatus (such as an air drier or volume compensator), and either a plurality of surfaces in the cavity is arranged parallel to and spanning the panels, the said surfaces acting as thermal reflectors or the opposed inner surfaces of the panels act as thermal reflectors. As shown a wall unit comprises an outer metal plate 3a coated with aluminium foils 7, an inner plaster plate 16 coated with aluminium foil at least on its inner surface, impermeable seals 54 around the edges and a pipe 75 (Fig. 1) for connecting the cavity defined thereby to an air drying installation or a volume compensator. The cavity is lined with aluminium foil 7 and includes parallel foils spaced by perforated foamed plastics plates. Many modifications of the internal insulation structure are described, some of which are also in Specification 1218332. The unit may include an airtight envelope 97 (Fig. 14) which communicates via a pipe 97a with insulated internal cavity, the cavity 96 containing the envelope being defined by plaster plate 16 and metal plate 3b and being connected to an air drying installation by pipe 98. The cavity may have two pipes connected thereto one for the input of dried air and the other for the extraction of moist air, all the pipes being connected by common pipes to; a common pump, air drier and volume compensating device. Valves may be included in the pipes leading to each cavity set to maintain the pressure therein at a constant value. Where two cavities are provided in the unit the wall panels defining one cavity may both be impervious and the cavity therebetween contains hygroscopic material. The units for outside walls are attached to structural concrete ceilings and floors by Z- section members secured along their upper and lower edges with the plaster panel facing the room. For partition walls the units have a plaster panel at each face. The subject matter of divided Specification 1321986 is substantially the same as this application but the claims relate to a plurality of wall units forming part of a building and having the cavities connected to a common air drier. Specifications 1321985, 1321987 and 1321988 also are referred to.
