Abstract
525,958. Portable buildings. LEATHER, F. J. Jan. 5, 1939, Nos. 429 and 17681. [Class 20 (i)] A portable building in which roof and wall panels are releasably secured to framework members by means permanently associated with them as described in Specification 122,026, [Class 20 (i)], has the fastening means associated with certain of the constructional elements in the form of hook-bolts permanently engaged therewith by burring over the screw threaded stems of the bolts so as to prevent the removal of nuts mounted thereon, while the associated members are provided with eyes or bars adapted for engagement by the hooked ends of the bolts. Bearers 1, Fig. 4, which may be formed in parts joined together by bars, are provided with side fillets 2, reduced end portions 3, end blocks 4 to receive the ends of the frame members and undercut slots 10, 11 to receive the metal ends 9 of spacers 8, Fig. 6. The bearers are supported on foundation blocks to which they are secured by hook bolts and cross rods. The end bearers are provided with fillets and end blocks on one side only. On the bearers are placed floor panels consisting of boards and joists and then the frame members 38 each formed in two hinged halves hooked together at 42 and connected by a gusset plate 21 are erected at the correct positions, the lower ends overlapping the reduced ends of the bearers. 'The end frames are provided with hooked ends 40, Fig. 18, to engage hooks 6 on the ends of the bearers, while the intermediate bearers are provided with triangular brackets 26, 28 each having a hook 25 to engage with a recess in the end of the bearer. The frames are provided with angles 34 at their upper ends which abut and are secured together by bolts 36 and pivoted bars 31. The side and roof panels 59, Fig. 15, which are hollow and may be formed of frame bars connected by transversals and covered by sheets, are'secured to the frame members by means of screws 71 and hook bolts the ends of which pass through apertures in plates 53 secured to the frame members and are burred over to prevent disengagement of the nuts and bolts. The inner surfaces of the frames are stiffened by angles 20 and the outer surfaces are provided with channel plate 48 the flanges 47 of which engage recesses in the panels. The end panels are formed in parts and are secured by hooked bolts to uprights 51 the lower ends of which are hooked into recesses 58 in the end bearers. Certain side and end panels may be provided with window and door frames and the end panels are so shaped that they fill the gable ends and the joints are covered by weather strips. A corrugated ridge plate 81 is next positioned over the upper edges of the roof panels and is secured by hooked bolts 82 with burred over ends and cross straps 84 abutting with their ends under the edges of the roof panels. A shelf 78 is supported by ropes 79 fixed at its ends to some of the fastening members, and each door may be provided with a sunken sliding latch.
