Abstract

1467951 Structural joints AUTOMATED BUILDING COMPONENTS Inc 9 May 1974 [9 May 1973] 20588/74 Heading F2M [Also in Division E1] A wooden building structure comprises a side wall frame having vertical studs 18 interconnected by upper and lower horizontal plates 20, 22, and a roof truss 12 and/or floor joist 14, the joints therebetween comprising elongate sheet metal straps 32, 36, each having a group of nail-like teeth 34, 38 struck out from each end portion, the group of teeth at one end of the strap being embedded in the side wall frame, and the group of teeth at the other end being embedded in the roof truss or floor joist. As shown, the truss 12 is of the bow-string type with upper and lower chords 26, 28; variations of the roof/wall joint are shown in Figs. 3 to 5A (not shown). A floor panel 16 overlies the joist 14; variations of the floor/wall joint are shown in Figs. 6 to 8 (not shown); the joist may be offset from or normal to the plane of the wall frame. The building may be tied down by straps or rods to a base, each strap or rod being connected to the joist 14 by a sheet metal plate (see also Figs. 9 to 13, not shown) having naillike teeth struck out from the major part and embedded in the joist, with a lower end of the plate projecting below the joist and having an opening receiving the strap or rod.
