Abstract
515,823. Trenches. ZINN, W. V., and ANDREWS, W. C. Nov. 22, 1938, No. 33985. [Class 68 (ii)] Trenches, conduits and the like are formed by a series of spaced rigid frames, which define the cross-section of the trench, and interconnecting rigid slabs or plates which abut against the peripheral surfaces of the frames to form the walls and roofs. The frames 1, Figs. 1 and 2 may be of pre-cast reinforced concrete, while concrete slabs 11, 12 form the walls and roof and may be provided with reinforcing ribs 14, the ends of which bed against and support the frames. Rebates 13 in the edges of the slabs facilitate the making of tight longitudinal joints. The frames may have brackets 18 for seats and holes 6, 7 for electric conduits, water piping &c. Slabs of various shapes may be used including plain slabs 30, Fig. 6, fitting into rebates in the frames. The floor may consist of pre-cast concrete slabs or it may be cast in situ. Dowel pins 17 secure it to the frames. A concrete base 22, Fig. 4, may be arranged below the frames, drainage slots 23 being provided. In that case the floor proper may be formed of open jointed boards of concrete section 25 resting on the frames. The roof may be strengthened by longitudinal beams 28, Fig. 5, let into the top part of the frames. Cement, bitumen &c. may be let into the joints to make the trench water tight.
