Abstract

540,902. Huts; slabs. TARRAN, R. G. March 26, 1940, No. 1553/41. Divided out of 540,881. [Classes 20 (i), 20 (iv) and 87 (i)] A slab for arched curved structures is formed with a curved web of concrete composed of sand or sawdust with cement and having rigidly attached thereto curved wooden flange members standing normal to the web along the two opposite longitudinal edges inwardly of the curve and by which adjacent blocks are secured together. The wooden flanges 26 as shown in Figs. 3 and 4 are secured in position in a mould to the web reinforcement 24 by pins 25 welded to the reinforcement, and the concrete web is then cast. Transverse ribs 23 integral with the ends of the slab are also provided and the web reinforcement may be enclosed by these ribs. The slabs may be laid in broken bond and secured together by bolts or clips by their longitudinal flanges. The curve of the side slabs runs into the curve of the roof slabs which are of different curvature and an inner wall lining may be secured to the flanges. Windows are provided in the curved surface which is covered with waterproofing material, and doors may be provided in the end walls which are formed of flat slabs with flanges.
