[Class 20(iv)] In erecting a wall of blocks 4 an auxiliary wall or backing plate 2 of one or more concrete slabs and provided with a network 3 of ribs corresponding to the joint pattern of the blocks, is first built up and the blocks are then laid in position with mortar layers 5, the thickness of the ribs. In modifications only horizontal ribs may be provided on the backing and an inner wall 6 spaced to form a cavity may be erected. Or a wall may have a centre backing ribbed on both sides for blocks. The backing may be of concrete or constitute a grating as of wood or metal; in one form a sheet metal plate has horizontal and vertical stamped out projections.
