Abstract
650,109. Hollow walls; building units. TASSIN, A. Nov. 26, 1947, No. 31335. Convention date, Nov. 26, 1946. [Classes 20(iv) and 87(i)] A hollow wall comprises an inner shell of concrete having outwardly projecting ribs between which are set prefabricated, trapezium-section, hollow elements, each having three parallel walls joined at their side edges by transverse walls, the outermost of the parallel walls forming the outer shell of the complete wall. The wall is constructed on the flat, being raised to the vertical position when the concrete has set. The figure shows the wall in its horizontal mould 15. It consists of a series of hollow storey high, concrete or earthenware units 1 laid side by side, each unit having three parallel walls 4, 5 and 6 connected at their ends by side walls 7 and 8 to provide two cavities 2 and 3 extending from end to end of the unit. The longer walls 6 form the outer face of the wall proper and are extended as flanges 9 at each side of the unit, so that when the slabs are laid side by side, wedge shaped cavities are formed between them. Concrete is poured to fill the cavities forming ribs 10, which are reinforced by rods 12, therein and to cover the units with a thin layer 11, reinforced by an expanded metal layer 13, which forms the inner shell of the wall. When the concrete has set the mould 15 is hoisted to the vertical position and removed from the wall. The outer cavity 3 may be provided with ventilation holes, (not shown) and the exterior of the wall 6 of each element 1 formed with a decorative finish.
