Abstract

1319589 Moulding reinforced concrete G M J WILLIAMS 3 Nov 1970 [3 Nov 1969] 53866/69 Heading B5A [Also in Division A1] In a method of making a cast concrete member 9 having reinforcing bars 3 projecting therefrom, the reinforcing bars are first set in a block- 6 of foamed polyurethane using a mould 1, the block 6 and the bars supported therein are then positioned in a mould 7, concrete being poured into the mould cavity defined by the walls of the mould 7 and the block 6 to form the member 9; after removal of the member and attached block from the mould, the block can be burned away or destroyed in some other suitable fashion to expose the projecting bars 3. The block 6 may be of any material which is destructible or dispersable by a method which does not damage the concrete member. In another embodiment, Figs. 5, 6, 7 (not shown) the parts which are to project from the concrete member are only partially set in the destructible block, the space between the mould wall and block being filled by sand in both moulding steps. The method may be used for producing concrete members having embedded therein water or gas conduits made of metal or connecting bars for forming joints between several concrete members.
