Abstract
1,066,203. Casting concrete pipes. WILLIBALD UHL, and FRANZ MOOS. March 19, 1965, No. 11876/65. Heading B5A. [Also in Division F2] A pipe of concrete or cement having a partial or complete lining of synthetic plastic material is made by casting the cement or concrete around a pre-fabricated synthetic plastics lining. The plastics lining is formed by spraying a plastics, such as glass fibre-reinforced polyester resin or soft polyvinyl chloride, on a rotating mould core (6), Figs. 4, 5, 6 and 13 (not shown), the mould core according to Fig. 5 being shaped to form a flange 15 at one end of the lining whereas the core of Fig. 13 is shaped to form a bell-mouthed socket 21 at one end of the lining and a flange 22 at the other. The prefabricated lining is then removed from the core and placed in a mould casing 33, preferably of a two-part construction; Fig. 14 illustrates on the left-hand side of the centre line the formation of pipe having a lining 2 provided with a single end flange, and, on the right-hand side of the centre line, the formation of pipe having a lining 22 provided with a bellmouthed socket. In one case, the lining 2 is stood on a dished mould ring 38 to form a socket in the end of the concrete pipe whereas, in the second case, the lining 22 is supported on a ring 37 and the bell-mouthed socket of the lining constitutes the mould for the pipe end. Concrete is poured between the casing and lining, and a vibratory core 17 set in operation to consolidate the concrete. The lining walls are of varying thickness to ensure keying of the lining to the concrete, and, in order to improve the ability to key, the lining may be additionally sprayed with quartz sand prior to hardening of the plastic as indicated in Fig. 13. The pipe may only be partially lined, as illustrated in Figs. 7, 8 and 9 (not shown), the lining then being manufactured in the form of half shells by providing separation strips 8 on the rotating lining core. The bell-shaped socket of the pipe produced is sealingly coupled to the pipe end or a spigot extension of an adjacent pipe by a ring (25), Figs. 10, 11 and 12 (not shown), which is rolled into position on making the joint.
