Abstract

1371015 Moulding foundry moulds and cores RAYTHEON CO 25 April 1973 [15 May 1972] 19701/73 Heading B5A A method of making a plaster foundry mould or core comprises the steps of (a) preparing a mould having a cavity of the desired dimensions and surface finish, e.g. wood grain (b) spraying with release agent; (c) filling the mould with a conventional gypsum plaster/water mix; (d) allowing the plaster to set and removing moulded plaster mass from the mould; (d) heating the plaster mass by microwave heating until its internal temperature is 300-320‹ F. (i.e. above the calcining temperature of gypsum (e) cooling the plaster mass to below 270‹ F., preferably to 200‹ F.; (f) heating again by microwaves to 300‹ F. The heating steps are stated to prevent crazing and cracking in the product.
