Abstract

PURPOSE: To drastically reduce the set time of conventional paste casting molds by filling the refrigerated casting sand having been refrigerated while kneading the specific binder into a preheated mold then drying the same to set, in molding the casting mold.
CONSTITUTION: 100 parts of No.6 silica sand, 2 parts of dextrin and 0.5 part of powder phenolic resin are kneaded for 5 minutes with a sand mill. While the mixture is being stirred with a mixer, liquified N2 gas is supplied to make refrigerated sand grains, which are then instantaneously filled in a circular core box mold having been preheated to 300°C by blowing. After 1 minute, the mold is turned over and is released, whereby the hollow core is obtained. By using this hollow core, cast iron is poured, whereby the good casting is obtained. The disintegrating characteristic of the hollow core is good and the addition of the phenolic resin is for improving the strength of the core. As a result, the set time of the paste casting mold which had hitherto required 8 hours is reduced to about 1 minute. Perfect reuse of the waste sand is also possible.
