Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the elution of heavy metals from solidified blocks of wastes produced by adding amino acid as an affinitive agent to a mixture of heavy metals- containing wastes and Portland cement.
CONSTITUTION: Heavy metals-containing wastes sludge and Portland cement or the like are mixed together in a mixer, and then a solution of a small amount of amino acid in water is added to the mixture and well mixed together. The mixture is then cast in a mold and cured, and the molding obtained is cured again after removing the mold to obtain cement-solidified blocks. Thus, the addition of amino acid makes the combinatiin of wastes with Portland cement better and thereby the strength of the solidified blocks can be raised, the elution of heavy metals from the blocks can be prevented, and also the releasing operation of mold can be made easier.
