Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the disintegration characteristic of the mold and the regenerating characteristic, etc. of molding sand by covering the molding sand surfaces with organic macromolecular compound then molding the mold by mixing an aqueous sodium silicate solution.
CONSTITUTION: To 100pts. wt. of molding sand is mixed 0.5W30 parts of the aqueous solution of organic macromolecular compound such as metal salt of styrene- maleic acid copolymer of 5W60% in solid concentration to cover the surfaces of molding sand with the organic macromolecular compound. Thence, 0.5W7 parts of an aqueous sodium silicate solution of Baume 34W54 is mixed. The mold is molded by using this molding sand composition. This method improves the disintegration characteristic after casting, makes the separation of sodium silicate from the molding sand easy and improves regenerating characteristic. In addition, no organic solvents are used and therefore there is no bad smell nor fear for fire and production of the mold will now be able to be performed under good working environment.
