Abstract

PURPOSE: To improve the yield of molten iron at the desiliconization by using the insoluble residues of the time when the slag at the oxidation refining of molten metal composed primarily of alkali metal compounds is treated with water, as the slag forming agent for desiliconization of molten metal.
CONSTITUTION: Desulfurization and dephosphorization refining of molten iron are accomplished by the slag using alkali metal compounds such as Na2CO3. The slag formed at this time is water soluble. It is leached by water to recover Na, etc. and is regenerated as the raw material for refining slag. Since the residues remained at this time contain Na, Fe, Mn, Si, etc., they are dried and are used as the slag for desiliconization prerefining of molten iron. This improves the fluidity of the slag, accelerates the sedimentation of the particle iron interposing in the slag into molten iron and improves the yield of molten iron.
