Abstract
PURPOSE: To prepare non-collapsible slag without necessity of rapid cooling by a mechanism wherein a predetermined amount of red mud is added to converter slag or electric furnace slag in molten condition to react slag and red mud and a mineral composition of slag is stabilized.
CONSTITUTION: To converter slag or electric furnace slag in molten condition, is added red mud which is rich in Fe2O3, Al2O3, SiO2, or the like and is a low melting substance with M.P. of about 1220°C. In this case, an added amount of red mud is a necessary amount which substantially removes free CaO and 2CaO.SiO2 within steel slag and, moreover, red mud is generally used in a pelletized or briqueted form. As a result, free CaO and 2CaO.SiO2 which case steel slag collapse are substantially removed and a stabilized composition which does not collapse steel slag is obtained.
