Abstract
PURPOSE:The titled flux which can prevent the slag from forming the solid solution and made the slag possible to be smoothly removed, obtained by modifying the composition of the slag in the ladle, mainly composed of CaO, SiO2, Al2O3, to a composition of lower melting point, and by supplementing heat in order to further increase the fluidity of the slag. CONSTITUTION:The main constituent of this flux consists of SiO2 and Al2O3 at a proportion similar to the standard composition of the blast furrnace slag, that is SiO2:Al2O3=60:40-76:24, and additionally includes either one or both of Na2O and K2O by 5-15% for the purpose of lowering the melting point of the slag. As another feature of this flux, a part or whole of Al2O3 in the composition of this flux is supplemented from the reaction product of the thermit mixture composed of Al and iron ixide, on purpose to utilize the reaction heat for increasing fusibility of the slag itself and also for preventing the temperature drop at the slag surface in the ladle owing to addition of the cooling agent, keeping good the fluidity of entire mass of the slag.
