Abstract
PURPOSE: To decrease the bulk density of a titled heat insulating material obtained by using CaCO3 or Ca(OH)2 added with MgO and bentonite as a main raw material and compounding vermiculite with this, and improve its high-temp. resistance and heat insulating characteristic.
CONSTITUTION: CaCO3 or Ca(OH)2 added with MgO and bentonite is used as a main raw material and a suitable amount of vermiculite is compounded with this and these are mixed. An aqueous carboxymethylcellulose soln. or aqueous sodium silicate soln. is added to this mixture, and the mixture is granulated then dried. In the high-temp. use of the resultant heat insulating material, the main raw material is not melted, and vermiculite expands instantaneously; therefore, the granules are collapsed and are uniformly diffused on the surface of molten metal.
