Abstract

PURPOSE: To mamufacture a burner which is heat resistant, corrosion resistant and capable of preventing back fire by forming into honey-comb configuration of slurry consisting of ceramic fiber, as the principal material, binding agent and stabilizing agent, drying it and calcining it.
CONSTITUTION: A mixture composed of 25 weight percent of silica alumina system short fiber with diameter of 2W3μm and length below 0.5mm, 40 weight percent of water solution of lithium silicate with concentration of 20 weight percent, 10 weight percent of zinc oxide powder activation-processed at 1000°C and 25 wight percent of water is satisfactorily mixed by a agitator to produce a slurry, and thus prepared slurry is poured into a mold of honeycomb pattern. When it has been dried to such an extent as to reduce its water content to approximately 10%, thus formed product is taken out from the metallic mold and further dried for hardening (or solidifying) for 2 hours at 100°C. In doing this it is possible to obtain an infrared radiation burner having a low gross specific gravity and a low thermal conductivity.
