Abstract
PURPOSE: To reduce the consumption of energy and by-produce a useful mold additive, when white phosphorus is obtd. by heat melting predetermined starting materials in an electric furnace, by adding an Al-contg. substance and an F-contg. substance.
CONSTITUTION: When white phosphorus is obtd. by heat melting a mixture of phosphate ore, silica and a carbon material such as coke in an electric furnace, an Al-contg. substance and an F-contg. substance are added to the mixture to make by-product slag fit for use as a steel making mold additive. Accordingly, the substances are added so that the moler ratio composition of the slag is represented by formula (1.05W1.3)CaO.SiO2(0.03W0.2)R2O3(0.2W0.8)F (where R2O3 is Al2O3+ Fe2O3). An alkali agent may be added to by-product molten slag prior to water granulation, and the agent may be amorphous.
