Abstract

PURPOSE:To provide strong raw stones usable as a civil engineering material by a method wherein iron oxide or an iron-containing material is added to molten furnace slag, and the mixture is cooled to a specified temperature at a specified cooling rate. CONSTITUTION:Iron oxide or an iron-containing material such as converter dust is added to molten slag immediately after its discharge from a blast furnace. The mixture is cooled to 500 deg.C at a cooling rate more than the mean rate of 400 deg.C/hr, thereby providing strong raw stones. The shape of raw stones can be adjusted by the floor profile of the cooling field.
