Abstract
PURPOSE:To manufacture usuperior hot iron desulfurizing agent by adding an inorg. substance to CaO formed by calcining Ca(OH)2-based sludge after producing acetylene or by further adding CaC2. CONSTITUTION:Finely divided sludge after producing acetylene gas by reacting CaC2 with water is based on Ca(OH)2 and contains a small amt. of SiO2, MgO, Al2O3, Fe2O3, etc. The sludge is heated to 500-800 deg.C in a rotary kiln or the like, converting the Ca(OH)2 into CaO. Because of the passage of heat history of such a high temp. as above 2000 deg.C in production of CaC2, the CaO has high activity. In order to protect the CaO surface from returning to Ca(OH)2, above 0.3% of an inorg. substance such as serpentine or talc is added to the CaO in such a high temp. state as above 500 deg.C to give a hot iron desulfurizing agent. 10-100 pts. wt. of CaC2 powder may further be added to 100 pts. wt. of the agent.
