Abstract
PURPOSE: To make continuous casting of low-carbon ferrochrome reducing intervention of nonmetal by pouring simple slag or mixed slag of ferrochrome type slag in making the casting bed.
CONSTITUTION: Simple slag or mixed slag of ferrochrome type having basicity (CaO/SiO2) of less than 0.5 is poured in molten state into the metal mold 1 and cooled to make the casting bed 2. Then, the molten metal of low-carbon ferrochrome is poured from the settler 3. The same effect can be obtained by using it in the same way as a protecting material for casting bed for pouring in the metal mold. The reduction of nonmetallic intervening material is due to absence of mixing of deposition preventive, absence of reoxidation of casting bed protector at the molten metal inlet, and slow cooling speed of the poured material that facilitates floating and separation of intervening materials.
