Abstract

PURPOSE: To prevent the formation of bubbles and to increase the yield of casting in continuous casting of billet etc. with small section, by charging Al on the dummy heat at the start of casting, then by pouring molten steel into the mold.
CONSTITUTION: In casting billet, bloom etc. of small section by continuous casting method, 100g/ton molten steel is charged previously on the dummy bar head at the start of the casting. Then molten steel is poured into the mold, and the dummy bar head is taken out thereby casting small size billet or bloom continuously. Continuous casting is performed while adding as usual 300g/ton molten steel. Hereby decrease in the yield of cast billet due to the formation of bubbles is prevented because very few bubbles are formed when the cast product solidifies.
