Abstract
1346309 Continuous casting CENTRO SPERIMENTALE METALLURGICO SpA and TERNI SOC PER L'INDUSTRIA E L'ELETTRICITA SpA 19 April 1971 [19 May 1970] 23857/71 Heading B3F Si-steel to be subsequently worked and heattreated to obtain a grain-oriented sheet or strip for magnetic use, is cast by pouring it, at 1540-1600‹ C., into a continuous casting mould cooled by water flowing at 2À8-4À0 cu.m./ton of steel. The steel, with additives, is stirred in a ladle by argon and passed by way of submerged nozzles and a tundish to moulds where a slag layer of CaO, SiO 2 , Al 2 O 3 and CaF 2 is added for protection. The mould water flow is said to be a minimum to effect casting and the S content of the casting is said to be 90% of that of ingot cast steel for the same purpose and the C content 0À01% more. A 900 Î 140 mm. slab is produced in a copper mould 1500 mm. high at 800 (initially 840) kg/min. For secondary cooling, water is sprayed in a first zone at a rate of 0À16-0À24 cu. m./ton of steel and in subsequent zones at 0À04-0À10 cu. m./ton.
