516,533. Casting processes; moulds. COMPAGNIE DES FORGES DE CHATILLON, COMMENTRY, & NEUVES - MAISONS. June 22, 1938, No. 18529. Convention date, June 25, 1937. [Class 83 (i)] In a method of restricting a pipe hole in a metal ingot L cast in an open trough T, one portion of the mould is insulated by a member I<1> and a cover I<2> and, when a solidified sheath has formed around the metal in the uninsulated portion of the mould, additional metal is caused to flow axially into the ingot either by raising the insulated end of the mould, or, in a modification, not shown, in which the insulated portion is formed as a runner extending upwards, by pouring additional metal into this insulated runner or by both means. Cooling of the ingot in the uninsulated portion'of the mould is assisted by water jets r. If desired, the trough T may have a movement relative to the point of admission of the molten metal during pouring and a stop off block B may be used in the method shown;
