Abstract

370,976. Casting-machines. DEHN, F. B., 103, Kingsway, London.-(Timken Holding & Development Co. ; 100, West 10th Street, Wilmington, Delaware, U.S.A.) Jan. 12, 1931, No. 1037. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, July 3, 1931.] [Class 83 (i).] Metal pouring ; casting processes ; castings.- In making large billets, slabs, &c. from molten steel, aluminium, &c. this is kept at about 2600‹ F. while pouring into a centrifugal mould and rotation is maintained until the metal has cooled to self-sustaining condition. The ring so cast is severed and straightened while still hot or a divided ring is cast so that it is free to contract. In either case peripheral speed of the mould, which may be 3500 ft. per min., is reduced when the ring is self-sustaining. The metal may be poured from a ladle 24 through a runner 24a into the mould 6 which is carried by its shaft 10 and rollers 14 and has a flange 7 secured by bolts 26. A block is secured in the groove 5 thus formed if divided rings are to be cast.
