Abstract

305,998. United States Metals Refining Co., (Assignees of Eppensteiner, W. F., and Green H. M.). Feb. 13, 1928, [Conventiiin date]. Sheets.-Ingots of copper for rolling into sheet or strip, are cast on end in cooled moulds with slight or no taper and then passed through rolls with the oxidized face in advance. Molten copper from a furnace A runs into a ladle; B which is tipped to fill a jacketed mould C with hinged and counterweighted bottom E adapted to be opened to discharge the ingot I into water G. The jacket D is supplied with water at a temperature between 220‹-270‹ F. and under a pressure of 15 pounds per square inch, preferably by means of a closed circulating system. If de- :sired oil &c. may be used in place of water. The ingot may measure 30in. x 20in. x 3.5in. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 (3) (a) comprises also the application to other easily oxidized metals or alloys and modifications in which a jacketed mould c', Fig. 5, opening diagonally is used or a number of moulds are carried by a turntable past pouring and discharging stations. This subject-matter does rot appear in the Specification as accepted.
